I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Thursday night/Friday morning with Will, Emma, and Steven (and didn't get home until 4:00 am, but that's not terribly important).

It was good, totally worth the money (which I still have to pay Will for the ticket, oops!), but it was all just one big cliffhanger, leading up to the next movie. Nothing got wrapped up. Even J. K. Rowling wraps the main storyline of her books, even when the rest IS a big cliffhanger. Come on, Disney, wrap things up!

I liked that there weren't many new characters, and that they brought back a lot of the cast from the previous movie. The pirates that captured Elizabeth in Curse of the Black Pearl (I can't remember their names -- the one with the wooden eyeball is Raghetti, I think, and I'm just going to call the other one Poppet) were there, as was (no longer Commodore) Norrington, and -- the one character I'm not sure I really wanted to see -- Barbosa. I honestly have no idea how they're going to explain him coming back.

I liked Norrington better in this movie. I think it's because he was driven by more than his job this time around, what with trying to get the heart and get revenge on Jack and Will and shit. Plus, he didn't have that hideous wig anymore, so he was much nicer to look at (and he didn't look so much like a pompous ass).

Elizabeth was a bit of a twit this time, but at least she got to fight more. And Keira Knightly is so damn hot in her pirate outfit.

Also, the Elizabeth/Jack kiss made me (A) want to make out with Johnny Depp and (B) pretty damn sure there will now be even MORE Elizabeth/Jack fanfiction, as well as an influx of Will/Elizabeth/Jack threesome fic. JOY.

Emma brought up the fact that the movies are starting to get too violent and creepy to really be geared toward kids anymore, and I have to agree. Dead Man's Chest has a lot more violence and blood, which is kind of pointless in parts, and Davey Jones' ship and the fish-men-things are probably going to scare the snot out of small children. There's a part where a man who's grown into the wall leans forward, and you can see his brain still attached to the wall. That's not something a kid should really see.

She also mentioned that Jack flinched every time someone said the name of the Lord guy who'd taken over Port Royal and worked for the East India Trading Company, so she thinks that he's the one who gave Jack the pirate brand, and I'm pretty sure she's right. I'm also dead sure that Tia whats-her-face (the scary voodoo chick with gingivitis) is the woman that Davey Jones fell in love with, or she's connected somehow. For those of you who didn't notice, when Jack pinched one of her rings, there was a close-up of a heart-shaped locket with some design on it. When Will stole the key from Jones, the music box was in the same shape, with the same design. I swear, if she has nothing to do with it, I think I might kill something.

There were so many scenes that went on for far too long -- the cannibal scene, the fight on the water wheel (though that was really, really cool).

Right, well, that's all I can think of for now, but I'll be sure to post more stuff I think of later. All under a cut, of course.

Steven lent me Katamari Damacy, and oh GOD, that game is so crack-tastic. I LOVE it. Every time I read something online, I keep imagining a little katamari rolling up the words. I'll probably give it back Tuesday, since I'll be on my way to Jackson and I have to pick something up from Will anyway, but oh man, I need to get my own copy. The King is kind of creepy (why the Prince is sitting right next to his overly large crotch, I will never know). Also, the fact that there's Katamari fanfiction makes me rather scared.

there's no "think" about it. Beckett was holding a brand (the P pirate brand) when he said "we left our marks on one another," and Will said, snottily "and where'd he leave his mark on you?"

Yeah, definitely more adultish. What actually got me more than the violence was the "know" banter with Tia Dalma (I LOVED it). I just kept going "wow, this is Disney?" But in retrospect, yeah, it is pretty violent, and Jones' crew was way creepy. x.x

PS: Pintel and Ragetti.

Yeah, I realized that when I was talking with a friend. Sarah REALLY pays attention, don't she? x_X

And thank you for the names! At least I got Ragetti's right, give or take an h.
