Guten abend, Freunde! Boy, do I have a lot to tell you about. Well, maybe not a LOT lot, but a fair amount.

Yesterday I woke up at 7:00 in the morning, ready to finish what little packing I had left, eat breakfast, and lug all my stuff up the basement stairs and pile it near the door. I put my contacts in, and after finishing the packing realized that I had no idea where my glasses were. Frantic, I enlisted Grandma into helping me scour the two rooms I knew the damn glasses had to be in, and after half an hour I finally found them on a wicker table. I hurried to eat breakfast and take my luggage upstairs, until I got a phone call from Mom. There was a fatal car accident on I94 near Marshall, and instead of arriving between 8:00 and 8:30, she got there at 9:15. And Mary, my roommate, had said she was going to be at the dorm at 10:00, so we assumed they would be there around noon. So, we loaded up Mom's car with as much of my luggage as we could fit, and shoved the rest in Grandma's car. Mom and Rod drove to the campus behind me and Grandma, and Grandma dropped me off after I promised to call her that night.

I think it took maybe five trips or so to get everything into the room, with Mom and I taking what we could up the stairs, and Rob taking the really big stuff up via the elevator. There were a couple people who were going around helping people carry stuff up, so they helped a bunch. (I gave the guy my laundry basket with all the books -- he looked like he could carry them up the stairs, and I couldn't have.) During the process, and while I unpacked, I realized that we needed a TV tray, and a lamp, and a pencil cup. So Mom drove us to MC Sporting Goods to get Rob football shoes and a cup, and then to Best Buy to get the table and Target to get the lamp and a screwdriver. We got back around 1:00, and by then Mary and her family were there and they'd moved her bed from near the door to the farthest corner. I started putting the table together, and then her dad took over and did a much better job than I ever could have done. Eventually the room did get put together, and Rob saved us from starving by running down to McDonald's, and that gave us just enough time to try and figure out how we were going to get the internet hooked up before our floor meeting. (We didn't.) After that, we went down to Miller Auditorium, where we got to hear boring opening speeches (former Miss Michigan is an alumna!), and then there was a picnic dinner thing, which was techinically a "last goodbye" thing with the parents. I met some cool people -- Andy, Kristel, Nate, and Jackie -- and we all agreed to meet up after the night's activity and walk down to my grandma's house, where I'd pick up the car and we'd go to Walmart for some much-needed last-minute stuff. Then we met with our small groups, and walked down to Waldo Stadium, where they had us make a giant "W" on the football field and took a picture of it. There was a carnival/bash/thing, and we all had tickets to get free pop and popcorn (I have four bags with me), and then we all met up and walked over to Grandma's. By this time Amanda and Jacob had joined us, which made just enough people to fit into the van.

At Walmart I picked up pudding, Nilla wafers, Pepsi, that Nouriche stuff, and a pair of pants, and then we all headed back to Andy's dorm (he lives in Bigelow like I do, and his roommate isn't supposed to be here until next week) to watch Sin City. I ended up leaving around 11:45, then showering, almost flashing two girls (though not on purpose), and getting to bed around 12:45.

Today Mary's alarm clock woke me up at ten to seven, and she didn't wake up until I said her name. Went to breakfast, met with the small groups, then went back to the auditorium, where we heard a presentation about making healthy choices, which wasn't so much about physical health (I mean, well, it was, but it wasn't the main focus) as it was about mental and academic health. The guy was pretty interesting, and his presentation had some good info. Then lunch, after which I grabbed a hub and some ethernet cables, and then "interest sessions", which are hour-long, optional seminars -- we can attend four, and there is a three-page list of them. I went to the "Dating on Campus" one, which was pretty good -- it talked about the differences between healthy and unhealthy relationships, rape, abuse, etc. -- and the one on nutrition, which I think could have been done a lot better. The presenter skipped over a lot of stuff, and there was so much more she could have talked about. After she let us out a half hour early, I headed to my room to hook up the internet, which I finally got running after figuring out what to do with all the cords. Then dinner, and I came back up here. I want to go to this Arts and Crafts thing at Garneau/Harvey, but I need to find someone to walk with me or else I'm not going.
