Nature has stricken our area with a wrath not unlike that of a careless, temperamental child. At approximately 1:40 yesterday, just after the bell for our last class had rung, an announcement ushered us all out into the hallway under a tornado warning. We spent most of the hour there. When we got back inside the classroom, we were told that many roads were blocked and that only the students who rode the bus could be released.

We didn't even make it halfway down my street. Down by the little church a tree had fallen, completely blocking the road and only held up by the power lines. I walked the rest of the way home and discovered that the power had been out since 2:30 that afternoon. It's still not back on, though the tree is gone, so I suspect that we will have power by tonight -- tomorrow morning at the absolute latest.

While Dad went to a singles' dance with some friends, I stayed to read by candlelight (the KKK is a WONDERFUL subject to read when the power is out. Not.) and periodically attempt to call Nick on Dad's cell, which was the only working phone in the house. Around 10 it started to pour rain, and while I do love thunderstorms, the noise of the rain resounding throughout an empty house frightened me, and I went to Jan's house. It probably took me half an hour just to find a way to get there. We watched Blazing Saddles. On the way home I was finally able to get a hold of Nick, so I talked to him for 30 - 45 minutes and then went to bed.

Nothing much has happened today, at least so far. To occupy myself for a few hours, I went to see Van Helsing. It was a very good movie (read : Kickass), though there are a number of plot holes. How did V. Helsing survive for 400 years and appear as a child on the steps of the Vatican? Why was Dracula only able to die by a werewolf's bite? Why did the gravedigger try to whack V. Helsing in the head with a shovel? And why was there a random cow wandering through the village, and how did it survive being thrown through the wall of a church? I just realized the answer to the first question; since V. Helsing/Gabriel was the left hand of God, the God probably saw fit to preserve him and use him again. I just wish Anna hadn't died.
